Starting Solids,

the Gourmet Baby Way

Thanking you

Suzy V xx

Welcome Mamas,

(and dads, I see you)

I’m Suzy V, founder of Gourmet Baby.

Gourmet Baby originally began as a frozen baby food business delivering “Solids Starter Packs” nationwide across New Zealand — created from my own experience of wanting better food options for babies.

Real food, made with ingredients I’d happily eat myself, using simple combinations of vegetables, fruit, meats, olive oil, herbs, and nourishing ingredients across 15 tried-and-tested recipes alongside seasonal options.

Along the way, I was honoured to become a finalist in the NZ Food Awards in 2018 and receive Silver in the Oh Baby Awards in 2022 — and yes, I did manage to knock Wattie’s off their perch for a moment there 😉

These days, I no longer manufacture baby food — but that chapter shaped everything I share now.

I’m also a mum of three, and each of my children had a completely different solids journey. I struggled with my first, my second wouldn’t eat lumpy textures until around 14 months old, and my third was what I’d call a true Gourmet Baby — and is now my best eater.

That experience taught me something really important: there is no “perfect” solids journey.

Every baby develops confidence around food, textures, routines, and mealtimes differently.

I created Gourmet Baby to be a space where families can feel supported while navigating starting solids with less overwhelm and more confidence — without judgement, comparison, pressure, or unrealistic expectations.

Today, Gourmet Baby has evolved into a guided food experience for modern families, where I share:

  • recipes

  • practical preparation systems

  • freezer methods

  • cooking guidance

  • first foods

  • texture progression

  • mealtime support

  • and the real-life lessons I’ve learnt along the way

all centred around helping families create real homemade baby food made by you.

Because starting solids doesn’t need to feel complicated, perfect, or Pinterest-worthy 🤍

It’s about creating positive experiences around real food while finding routines and approaches that genuinely work for your baby, your family, and your lifestyle.
